Ayla Glossary

    A
  • The Ayla Device Service (ADS) provides a way to deliver control and status information between any device and the web or a mobile application. This information is transferred in data items called properties. The communication may take place either over the Internet from the device to ADS and then to the mobile application, or directly from the device to the mobile application over the local-area network (LAN).
  • This is a software package that can be integrated into a Linux-based gateway product, enabling nodes on a connected network to be represented as devices in the Ayla Cloud Service, and managed remotely. The customer gateway application links against a library provided as part of the Ayla software package.
  • This is is a type of Ayla endpoint that allows for a more complex and versatile device than the Production Agent class of devices. However, the development effort is often significantly longer for OEMs and therefore results in longer time to market than the Ayla Wi-Fi Production Modules. Some of the primary characteristics include: - Available for embedded or LINUX solutions. - Makes the Ayla Embedded Agent available as a library or source. - Well-equipped for applications with existing RTOS and networking. - Because of the modular design, allows code for additional functions to be included as needed. Allows for a reduced bill of material (BOM) cost in certain situations.
  • This is a software package that can be integrated into an embedded Linux environment. It is one of Ayla's flexible agents. It supports devices running the Linux OS to enable customers to take advantage of robust features including device support, file systems, network connectivity, and open-source applications. Ayla's code is fully portable to any Linux distribution allowing for maximum flexibility in solution design. Customers can also leverage reference Wi-Fi set-up and LAN OTA implementations to jump-start their development.
  • Also called Ayla Enabled Module. This is the module and hardware, which is intended to be used as-is by the manufacturer.
  • This is a fully-managed, Ayla-enabled module intended to be used as-is by the manufacturer. These agents are pre-loaded on Wi-Fi communication modules to enable the device to connect to the Ayla Cloud Service. An external processor running the customer application can connect to the module via SPI or UART. The module includes the Ayla Production Agent along with the networking and security software. Some primary characteristics and benefits are: • Available for embedded solutions. • Provides the fastest time to market for OEMs • No smart gateway required. • No custom gateway or other forms of communication agent software, including QA required regardless of the type of end-device. • No need to hire embedded engineers. • Any microcontroller-based system can be enabled with cloud connectivity.
  • A template is a group of properties applied to a device in the Ayla Cloud. Therefore, the template is essentially an abstraction of a device in the cloud. The template properties define the device functionality and, consequently, how the end-user experiences product features. Ayla Templates are designed to reduce the work requirement for a customer to create a product.

  • Direct staff and other employees (i.e. contactors such as plumbers, electricians, etc.) of the Dealer company.
  • OEM customers who sell the OEM's devices to end users. Also referred to as the Dealer company.
  • L
  • Local-Area Network mode allows connection and control from a mobile device on the same IP subnet as the device’s
